About Me

I started my law enforcement career in January 2001 with Calhoun County Sheriff David Tatum’s administration as an administrative assistant. I was assigned to work on budgets, grants, and the daily operations of the jail during the day, while attending Chipola College Law Enforcement Academy in the evening. After graduation I started in the drug unit which then evolved into me becoming the grant writer and coordinator for a Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force. From 2002 through June 2008, I concentrated on the exploding methamphetamine epidemic along with its associated crimes. While working in the drug unit, I became a certified Clandestine Laboratory and Site Safety Officer through training offered by the DEA. In addition to my responsibilities with the drug unit, I continued my administrative duties as well as working any other major crimes within our county.

In 2007, I was fortunate enough to be selected to attend the 231st Session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. While attending the academy, I concentrated my areas of study in forensics, investigative interviewing, conflict resolution, and leadership.

In July 2008, I was promoted to captain over investigations. My primary investigative responsibilities were to work investigations of crimes against persons and property, in addition to supervising the drug unit. I was also a task force member for Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC), responsible for the registration and monitoring of sex offenders, and the evidence custodian.

In June 2012, I was promoted to major overseeing the administrative, patrol, and corrections staff.

In December 2012, I started with the Blountstown Police Department where I still work today on a part-time basis as an on-call investigator, a firearms instructor, and working special details..

Vision

“Leadership is not about being in charge. Leadership is about taking care of those in your charge.” by Simon Sinek

Anyone in a leadership role is only as successful as those they work with and I plan to be someone who instills a culture of mutual respect so that all stakeholders feel valued. When co-workers feel that they are appreciated, they will be invested in their respective roles and will be more effective and efficient in achieving our shared goals. This is accomplished by involving them in the decision making process, encouraging them to take pride in their roles, and recognizing them for their accomplishments. Leaders will gain the trust and respect from the people they work with when they see you doing right and not what’s popular.

Leadership Goals

  • Cultivate a work environment that will inspire employees to reach and perform at their full potential
  • Offer opportunities for specialized training
  • Recognize accomplishments of employees
  • Improve employee retention
  • Show mutual respect
  • Establish equality

Law Enforcement Goals

  • Rebuild working relationships with our law enforcement partners
  • Share assets, personnel, and intel with our local law enforcement partners
  • Engage with our community partners to help reduce and prevent crime
  • Ensure drug enforcement will be a top priority with a focus on addiction recovery
  • Meet quarterly with school personnel to evaluate school safety and identify any potential threats
